Mercedes-Benz Vans reorganises production network in Europe

Mercedes-Benz Vans is reorganising its European production network in its transformation into a provider of locally emission-free mobility. "Our aspiration is to offer desirable vans and services - to do this we must be innovative and competitive in all areas. At the same time, we have to secure our business in the long term. A key success factor for this is the realignment of our European production network," says Mathias Geisen, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans.

The manager describes the decision for a new location in Jawor, Poland, as a milestone on the road to electric mobility. The site is to become a pure e-vehicle plant. "We have signed a memorandum of understanding with the Polish government and other Polish economic partners. This envisages that we will use the good conditions and shared infrastructure at the established Jawor site to build a new plant for the production of vans," says Geisen. "While we flexibly produce vans with combustion and with electric drive on one line in all our existing plants, we will build our first purely electric plant worldwide in Jawor."

Mercedes-Benz Vans wants to make not only its products but also the entire value chain from purchasing to production and logistics to sales fit for the future, he said. "That is why we are investing in VAN.EA, our new all-electric van architecture," Geisen said. With the new architecture VAN.EA (Van Electric Architecture), Mercedes-Benz Vans wants to accelerate the transformation towards a supplier with an all-electric product portfolio. VAN.EA is the basis for all Mercedes-Benz eVans in the medium and large segments that will be launched from 2025.
