Dachser orders 50 electric trucks from Mercedes-Benz
Logistics provider Dachser is planning to add 50 units of the all-electric Mercedes-Benz eActros LongHaul long-haul truck to its European fleet.
The globally active company from Kempten has signed a letter of intent with Mercedes-Benz Trucks for this purpose. Dachser intends to use the eActros LongHaul in the configuration as a 6×2 swap body vehicle. Dachser is thus significantly expanding its e-vehicle fleet. The e-truck with a range of around 500 km on one battery charge is expected to reach series production readiness before the end of 2024.
"Dachser is a very valuable customer for us in terms of sustainable transport. Dachser was already a committed test partner during the development of the eActros 300/400 for heavy distribution transport," says Stina Fagerman, Head of Marketing, Sales and Services at Mercedes-Benz Trucks. "The fact that the logistics company now also wants to rely on the eActros LongHaul in the next step makes us all the more pleased and reinforces our E-strategy."
Dachser has already been using battery-electric vehicles such as the Fuso eCanter and the eActros since 2018 as part of the sustainable city delivery concept "Dachser Emission-Free Delivery". In what are now eleven major European cities, the battery-electric vans and trucks deliver all consignments locally CO2-neutral in a defined inner-city area as standard. On the last mile, Dachser also uses electrically assisted cargo bikes to distribute the consignments.
"The long range of the eActros LongHaul will enable us to transport goods emission-free even in heavy payload traffic and long-distance transport between our European locations. This is an important building block in Dachser's long-term climate protection strategy," says Alexander Tonn, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Road Logistics at Dachser. Stefan Hohm, Chief Development Officer (CDO) at Dachser, adds: "We have had a very good experience with the performance of BEV vehicles in City Logistics. It was therefore logical to take the next step - the long haul - together with Mercedes-Benz Trucks."
The Mercedes-Benz eActros LongHaul
The development engineers at Mercedes-Benz Trucks design the eActros LongHaul to meet the same durability requirements for vehicles and components as a comparable conventional heavy-duty long-haul Actros. This means 1.2 million kilometres of mileage in ten years of operation. The eActros LongHaul uses batteries with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cell technology. These are characterised above all by a long service life and more usable energy.
