VW shows details of the electric off-road ID XTREME
Emotional, adventurous, different. These are the three attributes with which Volkswagen praises the all-electric concept vehicle ID. XTREME, which is intended to demonstrate the performance and versatility of VW's modular e-drive system (MEB). A performance drive on the rear axle and software adjustments to the control unit gives the ID XTREME's off-road capabilities. The fully electric all-wheel drive develops a system output of 285 kW (387 hp). This corresponds to a performance increase of around 30 per cent compared to the base vehicle ID.4 GTX.
"The all-electric concept vehicle with all-wheel drive is based on the ID.4 GTX and demonstrates the high technical potential of the Modular E-Drive System," explains Andreas Reckewerth, Head of Complete Vehicle MEB.
The system performance of the ID. XTREME's system output by 65 kW to a total of 285 kW (387 hp) using a performance drive on the rear axle and software adjustments to the drive control unit. This results in a power plus of almost 30 per cent. The new performance drive at the rear delivers 205 kW. In combination with the 80 kW front engine, the ID. XTREME accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.3 seconds.
The all-electric off-roader has a 30 mm higher rally chassis from motorsport with 20 mm wide track plates. This should enable the ID XTREME to be stable, agile and safe even on uneven terrain. The 18-inch wheels with off-road tyres are covered flush by 3D-printed wheel arch extensions. They widen the mudguards by 50 mm and contribute to the confident off-road appearance of the ID XTREME.
The underbody is protected by a robust and completely enclosed aluminium fairing. It starts at the front of the vehicle directly under the number plate and also protects the 77 kWh high-voltage battery in the middle of the vehicle as well as the rear section. The modified crash carrier is specially aligned for the sleek, very sturdy bull bar at the front.
