VW ID.3 Sales are restricted
Due to the semiconductor and wiring harness crisis, car production has come to a standstill.
This has led to extremely extended delivery times and angry customers who have to wait much longer than usual for their new vehicle. Especially for the electric cars of the ID series, the lack of supply is clearly noticeable. Together with the high demand for the VW ID.3, this results in a difficult situation. Due to the significant drop in production figures, VW pulled the emergency brake and limited the delivery of the electric vehicle to dealers.
Now there is a glimmer of light at the end of the delivery bottleneck. VW is increasing the quota and delivering more ID.3s to German car dealers than before. According to the industry journal "Automobilwoche", the corresponding letter sent by the Lower Saxony carmaker to dealers states: "Due to an adjustment in the production volume for the ID.3, it is possible to adjust the current quota upwards."
In view of the unabated high demand, the fact that each dealer will receive five cars more than originally planned is just a drop in the ocean. With 850 sales outlets, this equates to just 4,250 cars per year, according to "Automobilwoche". These will be distributed equally to all dealers, which represents a break with VW's long-standing sales logic, according to which the dealers with the most sales are given priority.
The new strategy is likely to please smaller VW dealers in particular (with sales of no more than 199 cars a year), who were previously allocated five ID.3s. Another five is equivalent to doubling the quota. By comparison, the large car dealers (more than 1,000 VW models sold/year) previously received 35 ID.3s. Now there are 40 cars.
However, there is a catch to this increase. Since the existing orders are being processed first, the dealers will not benefit from the higher quota until next year. It also only applies to the VW ID.3. The other ID models such as the ID.4 and the ID.5 are not affected.
