China: Zeekr celebrates the delivery of the 20,000th Zeekr 001
From the beginning of 2023, the Chinese Geely Group plans to launch its electric brand Zeekr in Europe with its five-metre-long electric shooting brake 001.
Before that, the company can celebrate the delivery of the 20,000th Zeekr 001 in China, just seven months after its market launch. The last few months (March and April) have been slower in sales than the previous ones due to various delivery problems. But it seems that the situation is improving.
In April, Zeekr delivered 2,137 units (and 16,385 cumulatively), suggesting that volumes this month are back above 3,000 units with a few days left. Possibly May 2022 is best month so far. The Zeekr 001, whose shape is reminiscent of the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo, is available in China in three versions and two battery sizes (86 kWh and 100 kWh). Technically, the Zeekr models draw on Geely's Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) electric-car architecture, which has already been unveiled. The progress in ramping up the Zeekr is very important for Geely, as it is the first model based on the new SEA platform. A platform that is also used for the new Smart.
Zeekr's sales target for 2022 is 70,000 electric cars (an average of over 5,800 per month). Which suggests that a significant ramp-up in sales is expected towards the end of the year. In the first months, "only" around 4,100 units were sold per month on average. Should the e-vehicle hit the roads in Europe in 2023, it can be assumed that sales will continue to rise. The Zeekr 001 is manufactured at the Geely plant in Ningbo on an automated assembly line.
