Grand Cherokee arrives in 2022 -Price and Features
The Jeep Grand Cherokee will make its commercial debut in Europe in 2022, but the big news will be the unveiling of the "baby Jeep".
After celebrating its 80th anniversary in 2021, unveiling a new generation of the Grand Cherokee, facelifting the Compass, and electrifying the iconic Wrangler, Jeep has some new news for the 2022 model year.
Predictably, we'll see the already revealed Grand Cherokee hit the market, which after being introduced in the seven-seat “L” version. It has a plug-in hybrid engine.
It will be precisely in this bodywork and in this electrified version, the 4xe, that the Jeep Grand Cherokee will come to Europe — as we reported it in September 2021 — something that should happen in the middle of this year.
The Grand Cherokee adopted the same hybrid mechanics as the Wrangler 4xe, so it combines a 2.0 l four-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motors and a 17.3 kWh battery.
The result is the total combined power of 381 bhp and 637 Nm of maximum torque. The Grand Cherokee will still allow around 25 miles in 100% electric mode.
2022 Jeep Renegade
Before the Grand Cherokee, the (still) smallest of the Jeeps on the market, the Renegade, will get new mild-hybrid 48 V versions that will get a new 1.5 l turbo petrol engine. The new engine is an evolution of the current 1.3 Turbo.
According to rumors, this 1.5 l engine will take the place not only of the 1.3 but also of the 1.0 l three-cylinder unit.
This will be the third new Jeep for this year and, if confirmed, it will be the most significant: a «baby-Jeep» positioned below the Renegade.
For now known only by the internal code “516”, this project has already suffered some twists that led to contradictory rumors. Before the merger of FCA and PSA that led to the creation of Stellantis, the launch of three new compact SUVs by the FCA had been announced, and a 'baby-jeep', smaller than the Renegade, was one of them.
It was decided to leave behind the FCA platform (the same as the Renegade) to use in its place the PSA CMP, the same as the Peugeot 208 and 2008, Opel Corsa and Mokka, Citroën C4 and DS 3 Crossback ).
