Cupra announces new E-SUV for 2024

Could this be the successor to the Ateca?

Seat announced at its annual press conference that the Spanish VW subsidiary will launch two more new models in the next two years, doubling its existing portfolio of currently four models (Ateca, Leon, Formentor and Born). This follows the announcement of the Cupra Tavascan (2024) and the electric city car called the UrbanRebel, which is due to debut in 2025.

Cupra is not revealing much about the new announcement yet, but a teaser video already shows the silhouette hidden under a cloth, complete with a striking light signature. The vehicle is said to be distinguished by its self-confident appearance, which conveys emotion and performance. Already visible is a low-slung front end with a distinctively styled bonnet in Cupra design, plus a steep rear end with hip LED taillight strips. The compact SUV will be around 4.50 metres long, just like a current Audi Q3 Sportback - coincidence? Hardly, because according to the press release, the new Cupra SUV will be produced together with the Ingolstadt model at the Győr site in Hungary from 2024.

According to the manufacturer, the newcomer is intended to be competitive in the demanding A-segment. However, there is no talk of a fully electric version, but mild and plug-in hybrid versions with new-generation PHEV technology. The drive system is supposed to enable an electric range of around 100 kilometres with just one battery charge. Currently, most Volkswagen Group models only have a range of around 50.
