KIA Announces Electric Range of the New Sportage

KIA Announces Electric Range of the New Sportage

The new version will be the most powerful and most expensive variant of the Korean SUV.

At the launch of the fifth-generation Sportage, KIA promised a plug-in hybrid version for its new SUV. Information on the engine was already known, but the electrical autonomy of this PHEV version was yet to be known.

This figure is now announced, with KIA promising 51.5 km of all-electric range. Autonomy is provided by a 13.8 kWh battery, capable of charging in just two hours when connected to a Type 2 charger.

The new Korean SUV also has a 1.6-liter engine and turbocharger that delivers 177 hp. Added to this is the 66.9 kW (91 hp) of the electric motor, resulting in a combined total of 268 hp, transmitted to the wheels via a six-speed automatic gearbox.

PHEV is available in two equipment levels
Although there may be differences from the Portuguese market, the Sportage PHEV will be available in the North American market in two different equipment levels – X-Line AWD and X-Line Prestige AWD.

On the outside, the most outstanding features of these versions are the specific bumpers, with frames in satin chrome; gloss black mirrors, roof rails, and pillar covers; and the 19-inch rims, also in gloss black.

Both versions have the usual driving aids, such as the fatigue alert, the lane-keeping assistant, or the collision avoidance system. To this equipment, the X-Line Prestige version adds benefits such as intelligent cruise control, parking alert (front and rear), and a blind-spot monitor.

The comfort equipment includes a 12.3-inch screen, Android Auto and Car Play connectivity, and a Harman Kardon sound system (in the case of the more equipped version), among others.

Prices are already known
Kia promises to release more information about consumption soon, at a time when sales are just a few months away.

The South Korean manufacturer has already advanced a price of €34,950 + VAT for this PHEV version, in the case of companies, with the range starting at €28,750 for the gasoline-only version (with the launch and financing campaigns).
