Skoda's trainee concept car is called Afriq
Traditionally, trainees at the Skoda Academy create a prototype every year.
For the Azubi Concept Car 2021, 25 junior employees are working on a rally version of the Skoda Kamiq and are collaborating with Skoda Motorsport for the first time. The name? Skoda Afriq!
Skoda Afriq is the name of the Czech Republic's eighth trainee concept car, and it will be a rally car. From the first sketch to the finished car, everything comes from the hands of Skoda's junior staff. To date, the projects have ranged from a Skoda Citigo to the Fabia, Kodiaq, Karoq and Rapid Spaceback models.
For the 2021 Azubi Concept Car, the apprentices are launching the Skoda Afriq. The rally version of the Skoda Kamiq SUV is intended to pay homage to the legendary Dakar Rally in the deserts of North and West Africa.
Initial sketches show the Skoda Afriq with strikingly heavily sculpted fenders, perfect for accommodating chunky off-road tires. While the windshield is to be flatter than on the production model Skoda Kamiq, the rear is adorned with a very large wing.
The first dimensions of the concept car have also been revealed. The 2021 Azubi concept car is to be 4.36 meters long and 1.79 meters wide. This makes it twelve centimeters longer than the Kamiq, which is 4.24 meters long. The width and wheelbase remain identical.
