Porsche Taycan Turbo S Performance sets new standards
With a performance kit, the Porsche Taycan Turbo S is now the fastest production car with electric drive on the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring.
The electric sedan with development driver Lars Kern needed 7.33 minutes for one lap. That is around two seconds less than the old record of the Tesla Model S Plaid. Porsche's performance kit includes 21-inch RS Spyder design wheels with road-legal Pirelli P Zero Corsa sports tyres, which are now also available for the Taycan. The rubber compound is similar to that of racing tyres.
Another component of the performance kit is a software update for the Porsche 4D Chassis Control system that is adapted to the sports tyres. This analyses and synchronises all chassis systems in the 460 kW / 625 hp Porsche Taycan Turbo S in real-time.
"In the past, only thoroughbred super sports cars got into the 7:33 minute range," says racing driver Lars Kern, "thanks to the new performance kit, I was able to push harder; at the same time, the car drove even more precisely and agilely." The so-called Performance Kit is an accessory package that is currently only available at German Porsche dealers for the Taycan Turbo S of the new model year 2023. Retrofitting after initial delivery in Porsche workshops is planned in Zuffenhausen.
This includes transport to and from the headquarters as well as individual acceptance and registration of the Taycan. The price for the performance kit is almost gigantic at 13,377 Euros. Since it is primarily the racetrack performance of the Porsche Taycan that benefits, customer demand is likely to be limited.
However, Porsche aimed to take back the electric car record time at the Nürburgring from the much older but more powerful Tesla Model S Plaid with its more than 1,000 hp output. "We are very pleased that the Nürburgring record for electric cars is now back with Porsche," says Kevin Giek, Head of Taycan Series, "the lap time not only shows how much potential there is in our new performance kit. It also confirms once again the sporty genes of the Taycan."
