Here is the final version of the Alfa Romeo Tonale

The first electrified Alfa in History, the mid-size SUV Tonale, arrives now in its final version, promising list driving and arrival in Portugal already in June.

Three years later, Alfa Romeo finally unveils the final version of the Tonale. It's a mid-size SUV. It has the generality of the shapes of the concept unveiled at the 2019 Geneva show. With no major visual changes compared to it and using existing technology from the vast Stellantis Group.

It is scheduled for launch in Portugal as early as next June. And it finds on the market, as main competitors, assumed by the brand, the SUVs of premium brands, such as the BMW X2.

But Alfa Romeo also points the Tonale to the heart of the C-segment of SUVs, where it finds renowned opponents such as the Volkswagen Tiguan, Nissan Qashqai or Peugeot 3008.

The Tonale will be the first electrified Alfa Romeo in history. Which puts the Italian brand now owned by the Stellantis Group at the tail end of this race. It will have hybrid versions with a 48 Volt system and a Plug-in Hybrid with Q4 all-wheel drive.

The hybrid solution will have front-wheel drive only and debut an engine made for Alfa. It is a 1.5 petrol with turbo and direct injection, which will be available in a 130 hp version and a 160 hp version. Both will be helped by a 48-volt, 20 hp electric motor, inserted inside the 7-speed, double-clutch TCT automatic gearbox.

The brand guarantees that this system ensures pure electric locomotion with the petrol engine switched off, but only during low-speed manoeuvres.

Alfa highlights in the most powerful version (160 hp) of this engine the fact that it combines the petrol Otto cycle with the variable geometry turbine, new at Alfa Romeo.

Plug-in hybrid with 275 hp at the top of the range
The reference model will be the Q4 Plug-in Hybrid, with 275 hp of combined power and capable of doing 80 km in pure electric mode on an urban cycle. It is equipped with a petrol engine of the 1.3 Multiair type capable of delivering 180 hp and connected to the front wheels. It will also have an electric motor connected to the rear wheels, which guarantees all-wheel drive and raises the combined power to 275 hp.
