Bugatti Chiron sold out - era of the 16-cylinder engine ends
Bugatti's 8.0-liter engine marks the peak of the internal combustion engine era. The successor to the now sold-out Chiron switches to electric.
2005 was when Bugatti launched series production of its Veyron with a 1001-hp W16 engine, which was then boosted to as much as 1,600 hp in its successor, the Chiron. Despite high prices (for example, 3.8 million euros for the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport), buyers have to wait over a year for their Bugatti.
All 500 examples of the Bugatti Chiron have found their buyers. Production of this model series will end in 2023, as will the production of the 16-cylinder model. It is unlikely that the next Bugatti models will again be equipped with such a power unit: Volkswagen has now spun off its luxury brand. Although sports car subsidiary Porsche has an economic stake in the joint venture, control has been taken over by Croatian hypercar builder Rimac.
