Maserati GranCabrio : the brand's first 100% EV.

Fully electric sports cars? That's very thin ice, on which only Porsche has ventured so far with the Taycan

. Maserati wants to follow suit as early as 2023 with the GranTurismo and shake up the market a little. With the prototypes of the Maserati GranCabrio, the brand is also giving a glimpse of what else awaits us on the road to full electrification by 2030.

"Following the resurrection of the GranTurismo legend, prototypes of the new Maserati GranCabrio are now on the roads of Modena to carry out the first development tests," the manufacturer reveals. The GranTurismo and GranCabrio are the brand's first 100% electrically powered cars.

Maserati, chosen as the electric spearhead in the Stellantis Group, was able to go all out in the development - no old platform that needed to be electrified, just the task of ensuring that the solutions developed would apply to other models and other brands. An approach that will not only be reflected in the GranTurismo but probably also in the GranCabrio.

The brand says the new models are the launch of the Folgore electric car range, with which Maserati will set standards in every market segment. According to the Folgore strategy, as electrification is called at Maserati, all models are to be available in a fully electric version by 2025: The MC20 super sports car, the new Quattroporte sports saloon and the future Levante luxury SUV will complete the Maserati Folgore range. By 2030, the entire Maserati model range will be fully electric.

Ahead of the new GranCabrio launch, expected next year, the prototypes are undergoing intensive testing. This means that we will see the prototypes on the road, on the racetrack and under different operating conditions. This will collect important data to achieve an optimal final set-up.
