Wiesmann Thunderball Comes With 92 kWh Battery

German sports car specialist Wiesmann has presented a fully electric roadster with an 800-volt battery under the project name "Thunderball"

For the time being, there is only a study, but interested parties can already pre-order the 680 hp racer with 1,100 Nm of torque. The 92 kWh battery is said to have a range of around 500 kilometres, also thanks to the low total weight of only 1,775 kilograms.

The Thunderball is immediately recognisable as a Wiesmann model: the shape of the air intakes at the front and the long bonnet are reminiscent of the sports car manufacturer's internal combustion models, which were usually based on a bought-in BMW V8. In the electric roadster, however, there is no longer an engine under the long bonnet, but a 180-litre frunk. This easily fits two hand luggage suitcases for a weekend trip. The rear luggage compartment, on the other hand, holds only 125 litres, and that is only in the coupé version. In the convertible, you'll probably have to settle for the frunk.

Lightweight materials such as aluminium and carbon fibre ensure a comparatively low overall weight and thus more range. The fully adjustable sports suspension with variable stabilisers ensures "the typical Wiesmann driving experience". The 680 hp accelerates the runabout from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds, and you can charge up to 300 kW at a fast-charging station. The battery is additionally water-cooled to guarantee this high charging performance even at high outside temperatures. To recharge the battery, the recuperation can be precisely regulated via the paddle shifters on the steering wheel. The driver can adjust the deceleration of the two electric motors mounted on the rear axle in five stages to produce different motor braking effects before corners. The battery's state of charge is displayed to the nearest kilometre, not as a percentage of the total charge.

"This is the completion of a dream. The result of years of striving for technical perfection and excellent design," enthuses Wiesmann owner Roheen Berry. The electric roadster is built in Dülmen. The basic version will cost around 300,000 euros. However, it is not yet known when delivery will begin.
