Which Electric Cars Will Come in 2022?

What awaits us in the car year 2022?

2022 will also be fully dominated by electrification; numerous new e-car models will be unveiled. Nevertheless, 2022 will probably not be a pleasant year for the automotive industry either.

For a long time, the automotive world longed for the year 2022 with great hope. In mid-2021, it was still expected that the "chip crisis", would be over by 2022. But the important chips are still in short supply, production has been partially halted at some manufacturers - and many customers are still waiting for their new car. This is likely to have a significant impact on the 2022 auto year, although the situation is expected to recover on an ongoing basis.

On the one hand, conventional diesel and gasoline engines continue to increase sales.

This leads to an even wider range of models to meet every situation. This is evident at BMW, for example, where the 2022 range of new models are extremely diverse. From the i4 (February), i7 (July), and iX1 (December) electric models, to the high-performance M4 CSL (May) and M2 (November), to the plug-in hybrid versions of the 2 Series Active Tourer (July) and X1 (December), there is something for almost every requirement.

The situation is similar for the direct competitors Audi and Mercedes.  The e-tron gets a facelift in November, and the A3 family is expanded in between.

Mercedes also has a diverse parade of new products on the agenda. From the electric SUV EQB and the roadster classic SL with a V8 engine to the electric sedan EQE and the new edition of the popular SUV GLC, almost everything is on offer.

At VW, too, electricity meets combustion engines. For example, the next generation of the "Bulli" is rolling out, and the T7 Bus is coming with combustion engines, as well as a PHEV for the first time. Based on VW's electric modular system, a purely electric MPV is also coming onto the market; the production version of the "ID. Buzz" project is expected to stand out from its combustion engine siblings with its futuristic design.

Toyota, the second-largest automaker, is also pursuing a good strategy with regard to driving systems. While the bz4X is expected to roll out in June as the first in Toyota's e-car model lineup, models such as the Aygo Cross or the facelifted C-HR will continue to come with combustion engines or hybrid.

A great classic from the UK will also be relaunched in 2022: The Range Rover. It will initially be launched with combustion engines, but the range will soon be expanded to include plug-in hybrids and pure electric.

Fiat is also putting more and more electricity into its cars; The Scudo, Ulysse, and Doblo large-capacity vehicles will all get an e-drive.

In the summer, Ferrari will also launch another plug-in hybrid, the 296 GTB.

So electrification is coming to more and more vehicle segments. Even in the smallest league: Citroën's Ami city car is due to arrive in 2022.

Renault has been offering a wide range of e-cars for some time now. In spring 2022, this will be expanded to include the Mégane E-Tech Electric. And even the Master panel van will have batteries in the underbody in 2022.
