MAN electric buses are increasingly in demand. Since the sales launch of the Lion's City E in 2020, MAN has signed contracts with customers for the delivery of more than 700 electric buses. In the past fiscal year, the Lion's City E sold by MAN in Europe accounted for around 5.5 per cent of all the more than 2,400 MAN city buses. In Germany, the manufacturer thus ranks third in terms of registered e-buses in 2021.

MAN recently received two orders for a total of 53 e-buses from Hamburg. Hamburger Hochbahn AG ordered electric buses from MAN for the first time, with a total of 17 MAN Lion's City 18 E vehicles. The first vehicles will be delivered this year. The second order from Hamburg comes from Verkehrsbetriebe Hamburg-Holstein GmbH, which has thus decided in favour of MAN e-buses for the third time. The current order comprises 30 E-solo buses and six E-articulated buses. Delivery of the first buses is planned for this year.

Soon, however, many more ordered e-buses will also be delivered. Some of them are already in use - like the 39 E-buses of VAG Verkehrs-Aktiengesellschaft Nürnberg. The company initially ordered 15 and then a further 13 Lion's City 18 E and eleven Lion's City 12 E from MAN Truck & Bus as part of a follow-up order. A total of 15 MAN E-buses will also be on the road in Zurich, Switzerland, on the city's standard bus routes from autumn 2022. Verkehrsbetriebe Zürich (VBZ) is pursuing a consistent electric bus strategy and has chosen the Lion's City 12 E as part of this.
