Mercedes E-Sprinter/ E-Vito recall

The reason for this is the fact that under certain circumstances a loss of propulsion may occur and the vehicle may coast, which could lead to an increased risk of accidents. However, the car manufacturer emphasises that the vehicle remains steerable and breakable at all times. By switching the ignition off and on again, the vehicle can be made ready to drive again.

The recall is being carried out under KBA supervision under KBA reference number 011648 and manufacturer codes V3EBA47OFF and V2EBA47OFF. The recall affects 7,996 Mercedes-Benz E-Sprinter vehicles worldwide and 2,511 Mercedes-Benz E-Vito vehicles in Germany. The manufacturer had discovered that in certain Mercedes-Benz VS20 E-Vito and VS30 E-Sprinter vehicles, the contactors of all batteries could be opened even if the battery gateway detects implausible behaviour in only one of the three (VS20) or four (VS30) installed HV batteries. As a result, the problems mentioned at the beginning could occur.

The corresponding notification states that Mercedes-Benz E-Vito (BR447) from the production period from 10.07.2018 to 14.12.2021 and E-Sprinter (BR910) vehicles, from the production period from 20.11.2019 to 15.12.2021 are affected. As a precautionary measure, it is planned to update the software of the battery gateway on the affected E-Vito and E-Sprinter vehicles via the Mercedes-Benz service organisation, so that in the event of a fault being detected, not all contractors are automatically opened, but only the contactors of the respective affected battery. The scheduled workshop visit to carry out the measure is expected to take less than one hour.

There seems to be no real calm around the electric Sprinter and E-Vito. Last year, the two electric models had to be returned to the workshop because of a fire hazard. Repairs also have to be carried out on the electric large-capacity sedan EQV - but unlike the eSprinter and eVito, there is no threat of fire here.
