Deutsche Post DHL fleets more than 2,000 Ford e-vans

Deutsche Post DHL Group has signed a memorandum of understanding with Ford Pro to accelerate the use of electric vans for global logistics operations. In total, Deutsche Post DHL Group wants to have more than 2,000 electric delivery vans in its fleet by the end of 2023. The two partners are thus underscoring their planned cooperation.

The collaboration between the two companies goes beyond electric vans, in line with the two organisations' zero emissions goals. The signed agreement provides for a complete package of solutions for the operation of the electric fleet, including access to Ford Pro's connected e-telematics software and charging solutions. The latter promises to reduce operating costs and optimize efficiency.

The Deutsche Post DHL Group plans to invest seven billion euros in this decade on the way to net zero-emissions logistics. In percentage terms, the organization is aiming for 60% of e-vehicles to be used for climate-neutral pickup and delivery by 2030. The company is now also building on the new E-Transit from Ford Pro.

“Ford Pro and Deutsche Post DHL Group share a vision of more sustainability and a commitment to electrified solutions. This agreement is an important step on the way to millions of deliveries being made with electric vans around the world. The E-Transit is the best-selling electric vehicle in North America and, as of June, also the best-selling in its segment in Europe.” – Hans Schep, General Manager, Ford Pro, Europe

For Deutsche Post DHL Group, Anna Spinelli, Chief Procurement Officer & Head of Mobility, puts it this way: “The electrification of logistics on the last mile is an important pillar for the decarbonization of our operations. The addition of the new Ford E-Transit to our global fleet of approximately 27,000 electric vans strengthens our ability to provide green delivery services around the world.”

The first electric vans have already been handed over and are to be used for last-mile deliveries in several countries around the world. The volume of orders is concentrated on the E-Transit vans, which are designed for handling express shipments in America and Europe. The vehicles will be added to the Deutsche Post DHL Group's fleet at the busiest time of the year and will already enable more sustainable delivery to customers in the high season.

In addition, the purchase of electric parcel delivery vehicles with a tailor-made box body for inner-city delivery in Germany was completed. Around 800 of these electric vans will be in use in Germany by the end of 2023.

The MoU signed by Ford and Deutsche Post DHL Group will enable both companies to jointly develop future products, new digital service offerings and charging solutions.
