BMW iX Flow Can Change Color-Video
BMW's presence at the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) this year was not limited to the unveiling of the most powerful iX, the new M60. The German manufacturer also presented a series of new technologies, but the one that stood out was the one that allows you to change the vehicle's color with just the press of a button.
To demonstrate this, BMW presented the iX Flow and we can see how the model changes from white to black and back again, quickly and dynamically, with different patterns — almost as if it were an animation…
Despite remaining, for now, almost like a technological experiment — with no certainty that it will reach the production line —, BMW refers to the possibilities that this solution opens up in terms of vehicle customization as well as functionalities.
The "secret" behind this ability to change tone lies in the use of the electrophoresis technique developed by E Ink — similar to what we find in eReaders like Amazon's Kindle. The ix Flow has a special coating applied to the bodywork that when stimulated by electrical signals — the only phase that consumes energy — shows distinct pigments.
