All-electric Subaru Solterra - prices start from 57,490 euros in Germany
The first electric car of the Japanese all-wheel-drive brand, which will hit the roads in Germany in late summer, can be ordered in three equipment lines. Even the entry-level "Comfort" version has numerous amenities: Headlights, daytime running lights, high beams, fog lights and rear lights are all LED. In addition to aerodynamic 18-inch alloy wheels, other features include automatically folding exterior mirrors, dual-zone automatic climate control, a power-opening tailgate, a ten-way power-adjustable driver's seat with lumbar support, heated front seats and a 360-degree panoramic camera, which should make parking and manoeuvring in the smallest of spaces child's play.
A 12.3-inch touchscreen serves as the central control, allowing control of both the audio and the cloud-based navigation system, which uses real-time traffic information, among other features. The seven-inch digital cockpit behind the multifunction steering wheel delivers all-important driving-relevant information into the driver's natural field of vision.
Safety is ensured by numerous assistance systems such as an emergency braking system with collision warning, traffic sign recognition, high beam assist, lane change assist, blind-spot assist and cross-traffic assist. On the passive side, in addition to the high body rigidity, various airbags protect, including a centre airbag between the front seats; the high-voltage battery is safely protected in the underbody.
From the "Platinum" level upwards (from 59,990 euros), the Solterra comes with 20-inch alloy wheels. Other features include a Harman/Kardon audio system, heated steering wheel, LED ambient lighting and exterior mirrors that automatically lower when reversing. The front and rear occupants sit on heated seats in imitation leather. In addition to the driver, whose seat also has a memory function, the front passenger now also enjoys electric seat adjustment.
In the top "Platinum plus" trim (from 60,990 euros), a panoramic glass roof creates a light-flooded interior. The electrically adjustable sunshade can also be opened by voice command.
Depending on the equipment, customers can choose from up to seven paint finishes, including high-quality metallic and pearl-effect colours. A two-tone paint finish is also available, in which the black roof forms a harmonious contrast to the rest of the body.
Regardless of the equipment line selected, propulsion is provided by a powerful all-wheel-drive system with two 80 kW / 109 hp electric motors on the front and rear axles. The energy is always supplied by a 71.4 kWh lithium-ion battery, which enables ranges of up to 466 kilometres (according to WLTP) per battery charge, depending on the model. The standard heat pump keeps the interior and battery at the right temperature - on cold and warm days alike - so that Subaru drivers do not have to worry about range restrictions. Thanks to the 150 kW fast-charging function (DC), the high-voltage battery can also be charged to 80 per cent within just 30 minutes.
