3.2 billion euros in funding for electrified passenger cars in 2022

In 2022 , electrified passenger cars have received subsidies amounting to around 3.2 billion euros. However, a decrease in subsidies is already to be expected in the coming year. It should be noted that the premiums were paid out in total for purely battery-electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids and hydrogen vehicles.

Accordingly, buyers of cars with alternative drives received more subsidies than ever before. According to preliminary figures, about 3.2 billion euros in state subsidies went to the new owners of about 640,000 vehicles, as reported by the responsible Federal Office of Economics and Export Control. This exceeds the subsidy amount of the previous year, in which 625,260 vehicles were subsidised with a total of 3.1 billion.

Together with the high electricity prices, the lower subsidy could lead to a significant drop in registrations in the coming months, according to scientist and automotive expert Ferdinand Dudenhöffer.
