2023-2024 Chevrolet Silverado: Prices and Details
After the unveiling of the Ford F-150 Lightning in May last year, General Motors has been at a disadvantage in the market, unable to offer a rival to match its top competitor. Now, however, the brand has filled the gap by unveiling the new Chevrolet Silverado EV, the answer to the electric F-150.
DESIGNED FROM THE GROUND UP
The new electric Silverado was designed from the ground up, and its exterior design doesn't resemble that of the 2022 Silverado, nor do its features, capabilities, and performance.
At the design level, we can see an aerodynamic front end that has been sculpted to efficiently direct air through the sides.
Available only in Crew Cab configuration, the Silverado EV features short overhangs and a lower grille that leaves room for the front trunk door. On the sides, however, we find pronounced wheel arches, 24-inch wheels, and plastic cladding.
In the rear is a 1,803mm cargo floor with a Multi-Flex center door reminiscent of the one used by the Chevrolet Avalanche. When the door is closed, the electric Silverado will be able to carry items longer than 2,743 mm, expanding the space to 3,302 mm when the tailgate is lowered.
THE INTERIOR
Inside the Chevrolet Silverado EV, we find an 11-inch digital instrument cluster and a 17-inch screen infotainment system. Added to that are a fixed panoramic roof, a Head-Up Display, and two-tone leather seats with red accents.
The steering wheel has a flat bottom, the gearshift is mounted on the steering column, and heated rear seats allow passengers up to 6-foot tall to ride comfortably no matter where they sit, according to Chevrolet. In addition, the modular center console offers a 32-liter storage compartment.
UP TO 673 HP AND 400 MILES RANGE
In terms of mechanics, the Chevrolet Silverado EV is available with an output of 517 bhp and a maximum torque of 834 Nm. It claims a range of 400 miles on a single charge and offers a towing capacity of up to 3,600 kilograms. Chevrolet also announced that this capacity will increase to 9,000 kilograms with a specific package.
Chevrolet also plans an even more powerful version of the Silverado EV, called the Silverado EV RST First Edition. This variant will have an all-wheel-drive system and two engines that will develop a maximum power of 673 bhp and a torque of over 1,056 Nm. It will have a mode called Wide Open Watts that will allow the electric pickup to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds, a range of 400 miles, and a price of $105,000 (93,000 euros). In addition, it supports 350 kW fast charging that will add 161 kilometers of range in just ten minutes.
The Chevrolet Silverado EV will also offer vehicle-to-vehicle charging technology, much like the Ford F-150 Lightning. Added to this is the PowerBase charging system that offers up to ten outlets for power tools and other components. It provides up to 10.2 kW of power and will even be able to power a home with the right equipment.
This RST version features four-wheel steering and air suspension system that allows the body to be raised or lowered up to 50 mm. Buyers will also receive a trailer-compatible Super Cruise semi-autonomous steering system.
