Porsche and Audi form fast-charging alliance in Japan

Joining forces to advance electromobility: Porsche Japan and Audi Japan are establishing a "Premium Charging Alliance" to expand the network of 150 kW fast-charging stations in Japan.

Through the alliance, Porsche and Audi customers will be able to use the fast-charging stations of both companies from July 2022.

The "Premium Charging Alliance" project is designed to expand the charging offer in Japan. It brings together the network of Porsche and Audi fast-charging stations - both at the dealerships and in the city centres. Owners of purely electric vehicles from Porsche and Audi will be able to benefit. Through the alliance, they will be able to use 50 Porsche turbochargers at 41 locations nationwide as well as 52 charging units from Audi Japan. In total, 102 fast-charging stations will be available to them by the end of this year.

At 150 kW, the Porsche Turbocharger fast-charging stations offer the most powerful output of any charging facility in the country and can charge the Taycan's battery to 80 per cent in 24 minutes. There are currently 50 facilities in operation in Japan: 37 units at 33 Porsche Centres (out of a total of 45 in Japan) and seven locations with 12 charging units as part of the urban charging infrastructure, including one at the Porsche Experience Centre.

"Japan is very committed to expanding the public charging network; at the same time, we believe that the charging speed is not yet high enough," says Michael Kirsch, CEO of Porsche Japan. "Porsche sees itself as a pioneer in the field of fast charging. With the Premium Charging Alliance, we want to join forces with other companies that also offer fast charging. It will allow us to expand the number of charging locations, which means our customers will have to spend less time charging their vehicle, making it even more relaxing to use their electric vehicle."

Porsche Japan was established in 1995 and became a full-fledged importer in 1998. Since then, Porsche has continued to expand its presence in the country and broaden its range of brand experiences. Following record sales in 2020, 6900 Porsche vehicles were delivered last year. The best-selling model was the Macan with 2109 vehicles, followed by last year's top seller 911 (1529 vehicles). The market launch of the Taycan took place in Japan in January 2021 - 784 customers were able to take delivery of the all-electric sports car in 2021. In October last year, the Porsche Experience Center (PEC) Tokyo was opened. In addition, customers and fans of the brand will find modern sales formats in Japan, such as Porsche Sales Pop-ups.
