CUPRA introduces Extreme E drivers and new vehicle

The electric vehicle race Extreme E, which was held for the first time in 2021 to draw attention to the natural environments under the threat of climate change, is preparing for its second season.

The organization, which aims to draw attention to how the damage to the environment can be prevented and how to find solutions to the problems of climate change, encourages the use of electric cars and thus to take positive steps to protect the future. The 2022 season of the Extreme E series, which promotes electrification, sustainability, environmental awareness and gender equality, starts with the first leg to be held in Neom (Saudi Arabia) on February 19-20.

After its first season in cooperation with ABT Sportsline, the first automotive brand to register for Extreme E, CUPRA, which started the season with the claim of championship this year, introduced its new season's pilots and new vehicle at a meeting.

One of the most important changes in the ABT CUPRA XE team, which entered the 2022 season with innovations, is the legendary pilot Nasser Al-Attiyah, who has just joined the team and became the champion in 2011, 2015, 2019 and the 2022 Dakar held last month. Another driver is Jutta Kleinschmidt, who raced for the team last year and won the Dakar champion in 2001. This new partnership is believed to play an important role in ABT CUPRA XE's competitive performance in order to rank higher and win in all the races it will participate in.

And a new e-CUPRA

The vehicle that CUPRA will compete in Extreme E 2022 is also among the innovations. Combining electrification and performance extremely well, CUPRA reinterpreted the e-CUPRA ABT XE1 model, which it competed in the previous season, for 2022. The new model CUPRA Tavascan XE best reflects the spirit of the Extreme E Championship.

The 54 kWh battery car, which is placed behind the cockpit and thus contributes to optimum weight distribution, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in about four seconds. An important advantage of the CUPRA Tavascan XE, which has gained a more sustainable and sensitive identity in terms of the environment, is the parts used. During the grueling race, this all-electric car is equipped with 3D-printed parts that make repairs much easier and faster in case of damage.

Hints of the serial production model

The CUPRA Tavascan XE also hints at the design language that will be used in the mass production of CUPRA Tavascan, the second 100% electric model that the brand will design and develop in Barcelona and put on the market by 2024.
