The sole basic engine of the VW up! is the one-liter three-cylinder. Depending on the version, the gasoline engine produces 60 bhp, 75 bhp or, in the turbo version, 90 bhp. The EcoFuel natural gas model has 68 bhp.
The driving characteristics of the up! are convincing. Driving stability, precise steering, and the braking system were repeatedly praised. With the newer powerful 90 bhp engine, many car testers had fun on the road. In the Euro NCAP crash test, the up! achieved the maximum score of five stars, with deductions only in pedestrian protection. The space available in the rear is naturally limited by the design. The plastic cladding was omitted in some places for cost reasons, which is why the interior noise is particularly high at higher speeds. However, in the essential categories such as handling and safety, the up! is often ahead of the competition.
