2022-2023 Smart #1: Prices, details, specs

Smart #1 is regarded as a trailblazer for the brand.

Not only in the direction of electric mobility but above all about the new orientation of the smart brand, its product portfolio and the nomenclature for its new vehicle generation. For the world premiere of the smart #1, we have compiled all the facts and figures on the electric SUV and also take a look at their vision for the future.

The smart #1 sees itself as a companion in everyday life. Because from the brand's point of view, mobility today stands for much more than just getting people from A to B. According to smart, today's mobility - and thus also the smart #1 - "brings people together, connects ideas and cultures and enables a multitude of shared experiences. Technology today brings many possibilities - it adapts to people's lives, not the other way around." Because of this development, the company's e-models will evolve away from simple means of transport into new spheres.

Let's first get to the facts of smart's e-car: the new smart #1 has a length of 4,270mm, a width of 1,822mm as well as a height of 1,636mm. The wheelbase is stated at 2,750mm, with a kerb weight of 1,820kg. Tyres are fitted with a maximum of 19-inch rims. The electric SUV draws its power from a 66 kWh NMC battery. This should provide power for a range of 420-440 km according to the WLTP cycle. When the available energy runs out, the smart #1 charges with a maximum of 22 kW (AC) and 150 kW (DC). In terms of charging time, this means that AC charging goes from 10 to 80% in around three hours, while DC charging takes just under 30 minutes.

The smart #1 is driven by an electric motor on the rear axle. This has an output of 200 kW/272 hp and a maximum torque of 343 Nm. The top speed is reached at 180 km/h and locked. The smart #1 also includes a digital key based on a peer-2-peer system: users can share the digital key of the smart #1 with others via an app. As the owner of the electric SUV, you can decide which rights you want to transfer to other users.

Above the floating centre console, which impresses with its superior space efficiency, is a 12.8-inch touch display with 1920×1080 pixels for customisation. Because here, too, smart puts the driver at the centre. For this purpose, the company relies on a special app environment and an individual infotainment user interface. As smart explains, the smart #1 relies on "purposeful and human-centred technology to connect people, places and experiences both virtually and in real life". The new smart features an avatar as an intelligent companion with AI-based voice control implemented in the user interface." The manufacturer goes on to say that this fits seamlessly into the connected ecosystem of cars, smart apps and cloud data. All these fields are connected to the personal smart ID and protected by the highest cyber security encryption standards.

The vision of smart is to develop a true and customer-oriented omnichannel experience along the entire customer journey together with experienced partners. In other words, customers decide when and where they get information, gather experiences, make a purchase or simply stay in dialogue with smart. This ensures a seamless transition from online to offline and back. For this reason, full integration of selected Mercedes-Benz dealerships will remain a key success factor of the business model, says the brand about the sales model of the new smart #1 and upcoming e-vehicles.
